Pauline and her husband Carl Albert Matthes were born in Germany. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1881 and she in 1882. They lived in Crawford Co. KS for a while before coming to Lincoln Co. OK.
Nine children are known to this marriage, born between 1873 and 1895. These are Lena T. Matthes, Mathilda Spielburger, John William, Meta C. Carson, Ed Matthes, Otto Julius Matthes, Carl William Matthes, Alma "Allie" Matthes (buried beside her mother), and Albert Matthes.
After Pauline's death, Carl married again and was living in Arkansas when he was murdered in 1904
