Richard R. Arthur, 74, of 523 Clayton Ave., died at 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, in the Quincy United Methodist Home. He had been in failing health for the past two years and before entering the nursing home in January, was a patient in Waynesboro
Hospital for two weeks. He had been critically ill since Sunday.
Born Oct. 5,1910 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Robert R. and Ethel (Hoover) Arthur.He was a 1928 graduate of Waynesboro High School and received his bachelor's degree in dairy husbandry from Penn State in 1932. For several years, he was employed by the Breyers Ice Cream Co. in New Jersey. He returned to Waynesboro in 1934 when he became a partner with other members of his family m the operation of Arthurs Dairy. He also assisted in the management of family-owned farms north of Waynesboro until 1959. He retired from the dairy operation in 1974. Arthur had served on the board of
directors of the South Penn Power Co. He and his wife, Mrs. Hariet R. "Jackie" (Henne) Arthur, were married in May, 1934, and had lived at the present residence for the past
39 years. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Arthur was also a member and past master of Acacia Lodge No 586, F&AM, George Washington Royal Arch Chapter; Continental Commandry, Knights Templar, Zembo Temple Shrine; and a member and past president of the Waynesboro Shrine Club.
He was a member of the BPO Elks, the Waynesboro Country Club and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Arthur was a past president of the Waynesboro Rotary Club and a member and former director of the Franklin County Penn State Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, R. Eugene Arthur and William H. Arthur, both
of Waynesboro, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Following cremation, committal services will be held at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery.
