Melvin C. Moss, Kokomo, died at 8:35 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born December 30, 1930 in Woodstock, Georgia. Melvin was raised by his stepfather and mother, James & Lillie (Nelson) Carter. On September 3, 1955 in Kokomo, he married Nancy Smith who survives.

Melvin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. After returning from his service in the Army, Melvin began working at Continental Steel and continued his service for 30 years, retiring as a wiredrawer in 1983.

He was a member of the American Legion, Post 6, the 40 & 8th, a former member of the Eagles Lodge and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1152 where he served on the military rites team for seven years. Melvin loved music, singing and playing cards with friends.

Melvin is survived by his wife Nancy Moss of Kokomo, five children, Gregory Johnson of Kokomo, Brenda Taylor and her companion Bill Durham of Kokomo, Linda Cross and her husband John of Galveston, Calvin Moss and his companion, Lois Anthony, of Kokomo, and Glen Moss and his wife, Kathy, of Greentown; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Moss and his wife Agnes of Florida and several half brothers and half sisters. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, and one son, Timothy Moss.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 West Jefferson Street, with the Rev. Herman Gorham officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the V.F.W. Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
