Mrs. Rosa Zehring, 87, widow of Josiah Zehring, died Tuesday morning at her home, 405 West Jefferson street. She had been ill since last spring when she suffered a stroke of paralysis. She improved for a time, then complications developed and her condition had been of great concern to her family.
She was born June 3, 1851, in Marion county, on Williams Creek, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Newman, but most of her life had been spent in Kokomo and vicinity. At the time of Mr. Zehring's death in 1917 they lived on a farm near Bennetts Switch.
Surviving are four children: Mrs. George Sailors of this city, William Everett and Walter Zehring, both of the Bennetts Switch neighborhood, and Mrs. Lyda Welsh of Detroit, Mich.
There are seven grandchildren: Josiah, William Robert and Sara Lou Zehring, Mary Helen Welsh of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Earl Tyner Jr. of Ann Arbor, Mich, Mrs. Robert M. Neale and Mrs. Charles R. Cruse of Indianapolis; also two great-grandchildren, Nancy and William Robert Neale.
She leaves also one brother, Oliver Newman of Mohawk, Ind., and a half-brother, A. M. Newman of Indianapolis. A daughter of the latter, Mrs. Fern Newman Bollinger, deceased, was reared by her aunt, her mother having died.
Mrs. Zehring was a member of Grace Methodist church.
The body is at the Rich funeral home where the funeral will be held at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Friends may call there after 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. J. M. Riley will be in charge of the services which will be followed by burial in Crown Point cemetery.
