Son of Jeremiah and Mary McNew; born December 2, 1892 in Tipton County, Indiana. Moved to Howard County in 1904. Occupation: Farmer. Entered service on March 18, 1918. Sent to Camp Greene, North Carolina. Embarked for overseas in May 1918; assigned to Company E, 39th Infantry, 4th Division. Participated in second battle of the Marne, Chateau-Thierry, battles at Belleau Wood, St. Mihiel, Verdun and the Argonne Forest Drive. Killed in action on October 6, 1918. Died at age 25 years, 10 months, 4 days. Time in service: 6 months, 20 days.
