The last rites over all that was mortal of the late Mrs. Ella Allys Mecklenburg, nee Goodenow, were held last Saturday. After a short service at home, mourners and their neighbors formed in procession and drove to the Presbyterian church in the city arriving shortly after eleven o’clock in the forenoon.
An enlarged choir with Mrs. Dollie McGee, as organist, rendered some sweet music. Rev. W.P. Friedrich officiated and spoke feelingly of the many fine qualities of the deceased, her long illness, her patience and her gentleness. He also mentioned the tender care given her by her husband, mother, and other relatives. The church was completely filled with sympathizing neighbors and friends, and many elegant floral pieces attested the respect in which deceased was held. The body rested in a white plush couch-casket and bore a peaceful expression. After the impressive service, a long silent line of friends filed past the casket and bade the gentle sufferer a last farewell.
The service at the cemetery was brief, consisting only of the committal and two songs by the choir. When the grave was filled, the flowers were laid on top, thus completely covering it. She suffered more than tongue can tell, and there was no cure for her illness; hence there is this consolation, that now she is free from pain. May she rest in peace.
