Aaron W. Sutherlin, 85, of Orleans, died Tuesday at the Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington.

Aaron was born April 8, 1924, in Orleans to his parents, Retsor O. and Sarah Bell Moore Sutherlin.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from Crane in 1972.

He married the former Carolyn McCoy Sutherlin, who preceded him in death on March 9, 2006.

He was a member of the Orleans Christian Church, where he was an Elder Emeritus. He was also a member of the Orleans American Legion, Warren Brock Post No. 69. He had served as chaplain.

He is survived by his son Mark Sutherlin and his wife, Carolanna, of Orleans. He is also survived by his daughter, Ann Rains and her husband, Brent, of Bedford. Two brothers and one sister survive, Harley Sutherlin of Paoli and Wade Sutherlin of Martinsville, and Mary Strauss of Orleans. There are two grandchildren, Luke and Amber Rains.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.

The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Orleans Christian Church with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Orleans, with military rites by the Orleans American Legion, Warren Brock Post No. 69.
