Merna Kunz Glade passed away May 9, 1998, at her home after a brief illness in the loving care of her children. She was born August 18, 1919, in Bern, Idaho, to wonderful, kind parents Benjamin William and Rosanna Kunz. She spent many wonderful summers in Bern and at the family dairies in Williamsburg. When she was in the second grade, the family moved to Montpelier, Idaho, where she attended Lincoln Elementary School. The family moved to Salt Lake City when she was 15. She attended West High School and graduated in 1937. It was at West High where she met her future husband, George Melvin Glade. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by President David O. McKay, June 15, 1944. Melvin preceded her in death June 1, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gordon.
Merna's family was the center of her life. She was never happier than when surrounded by her descendants. She is survived by three children; Linda (Thomas) Loertscher, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Louise (Raymond) Hilton, West Jordan, Utah; and Bruce Melvin (Lorraine), Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Brent (Tonya), Wayne (Erin), Steven (Rebecca), Reed (Cathy), Benjamin, Marlena, Brad and Bruce Loertscher, Mark (Lacy), Lisa and Tiffany Hilton, and Brandon, Michale, Matthew, Benjamin and Sara Glade. She leaves behind great grandchildren, Derek, Justin, Emily, Loria, Sarah, David, Carolyn and Kayla Loertscher. She is also survived by two sisters, Anona Clawson, Boise, Idaho; and Verlene Baker, Alameda, California; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and in-laws, Ruth (Willard) Stephenson, James (Isabel) Glade, and Edward (Carolyn) Glade. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 14, 1998, in the Canyon Rim Second Ward Chapel, 3000 South 3100 East, at 12 noon. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, from 6-8 p.m., and at the ward house from 11-11:45 a.m. on Thursday, immediately preceding the funeral. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So. Highland Drive."
