W.O. Colbert Dies
Former Steel Worker Expires Late Tuesday, Funeral to be Friday

William O. Colbert, 64, of 1132 South Courtland Avenue, died at his home at 11:30 o'clock Tuesday night (July 9, 1940) of complications arising from cancer of the face. In ill health for the past year, he had been bedfast for seven weeks. Known as "Andy" to his many friends and acquaintances, Mr. Colbert was employed at the Continental Steel plant in the open hearth department for 17 years. He had to quit work when his health failed.

Born in Tipton County, he had spent his life there and in Howard County. He was a member of the Elwood Masonic lodge and the South Side Christian Church.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Minnie Colbert; a daughter, Mrs. Beulah Croy of Elwood; two step-daughters, Mrs. Opal Gardner of Battle Creek, Mich., and Mrs. Irene Cook of Alto, and a stepson, Ernest Pflueger of Kokomo. Three brothers, Allen of New London, O.; Otis of Elwood, and Charles of Kokomo, and a sister, Mrs. J.E. Donson of RR, Kokomo, also survive.

Funeral services will be held at the South Side Christian Church at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, with the Rev. Burris Butler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Albright cemetery. The Masonic lodge also will assist in the services. The body will be removed from the Ellers mortuary to the late home Thursday afternoon, and friends may pay their respects after 4 o'clock.
