PIONEER WOMAN DIES
"Mrs. Augustine Lerche, widow of the late Christian Lerche died at the home of her son, William in the town of
Rantoul on Sunday Feb. 8th at the age of 80 years. The funeral was held on Monday from the Evangelical Church,
Rev. Reichert officiating. The deceased women was a native of Germany and was born March 20, 1840. She came to America in 1852 and at the age of 17 was married to Christian Lerche, a Pioneer of the town of Rantoul.
She experienced the hardships of pioneer days and did her part in home building. She was highly respected by all
who knew her. She is survived by three sons, Assemblyman Otto Lerche, Henry and William Lerche and three
daughters, Mrs. Fred Leib of Potter, Mrs. Herman Ortlepp of Hilbert, and Mrs. Fred Illian of Waukesha."
