Lucius was one of the first 13 settlers in Port Huron. He traveled west from Ct. and sold clocks. He met met Julia in Ohio -- they fell in love and he knew he wanted to settle down with her but she was too young. So he made his way north to Port Huron (via a boat)... made a homestead and went back for her. Beatrice told the story as she heard if from her father. It took him almost 3 years to settle and go back for her.

He was a teacher and firmly believed in education. He was also a farmer.

The farm house he built still stands today in 2011, although not in the family.

Lucius and Julia Had 13 Children -- some still born that were buried by the black river. Julia P. was their first child and Fred H. was their last.
