Known to family and friends as "Maggie", she worked hard on the family farm all of her life and maintained a huge "truck" garden even in her elder years that provided produce to the Knoxville community. She and her husband, John and son, Loren, migrated from Tennessee in 1912 to the Marion/Jasper Counties to farm and raise their 4 boys.

Obituary from Knoxville Journal:
Maggie Ellen Perkey, daughter of James and Sarah Barnes Ford was born Dec. 30, 1889 at Fordstown, TN. She died Sept. 1, 1975 at her home in Knoxville at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 1 day. On July 24, 1909, she was united in marriage to John Thomas Perkey at her parents home in Tennessee. to this union four sons and a daughter was born. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, son, Boyd, infant daughter, three sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by three sons, Loren of Pella, Lynn of Prairie City and Randolph of Knoxville, eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one sister, Fannie Smith, three brothers, Walter, Chester and Bruce all of Tennessee, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
As long as her health permitted she was an active member of the Assembly of God Church at Knoxville.
Burial was in Dunreath Cemetery with Williams Funeral Home in charge of the services which were held at the Assembly of God Church with the Rev. M. H. Mooberry officiating.
