Robert Stuart 00155 USNA 1847 resigned on 4-16-1857.
Robert was appointed midshipman, USN 1841. Warranted 1841. Naval School Phila. 1843, Passed midshipman 1847. Naval School Annapolis 1847. Graduate from Annapolis 1847. Appointed Master 1855. Lieut. 1857.
Enlisted in Army as private, Company K, 2nd New York Cavalry, to serve for 3 years. August 15, 1862. First Sergeant Dec. 1, 1862, Second Lieut. Feb. 1863.
Commended for gallantly at Brandy Station, Virginia in 1863 as Lt in USA. Drowned in Cedar Creek, while acting as Officer-of-the-day, 2nd Cavalry Brigade of General Gregg's Division. Warrenton, Virginia, July 31, 1863.
He and his wife, Ellen Eliza CAIRNS had 3 children.
