"Edward Evans was born in Pennsylvania in 1760, and was married to Miss Jemima Applegate, who was also born in Pennsylvania. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary Army, and was with Gen. Washington at Germantown in 1777, and within hearing distance of the Battle of Monmouth in 1778, but being sick was not permitted to engage in it. Mr. Evans came to Ohio about 1800 and settled on a farm of 109 acres in the southern part of the township, now occupied by Hugh Evans, a descendant of Edward.
Their children were 13 in number: Elijah, William, Joseph, Robert, John, Hugh, James, Mary, Sarah, Isabel, Elizabeth, Rachel and Margaret."
