Eugene T. Evaskitis of Duryea died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, ScrantonBorn in Duryea, he was son of the late Joseph and Agatha Urban Evaskitis.
He was a graduate of Duryea High School.
He was last employed by Duryea Borough. Before that, he worked as a mason in the area construction industry.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Duryea.
He was a lifetime member of Excelsior Hose Co., Duryea, and the Northeast Pennsylvania Fireman Federation.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jeane Richards; a daughter, Dr. Karen Menn, Surfside Beach, S.C.; a stepson, Charles Betress, Scranton; stepdaughter, Lynda Holmes, Jim Thorpe; six stepgrandchildren; one great-stepgrandson; a brother, Albert Evaskitis, Port Reading, N.J.; sisters, Rita Weinschenk, Wyoming; Lorraine Resavy, Wyoming; Arlene Masi, Bloomfield, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Duryea.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Vigil services will be conducted this evening.
