WISSINGER - Fred Edward Wissinger, born Nov. 2, 1888, Big springs, KS came to Lebanon in October 1952. Having passed through many times, he always thought it was a nice town for his family to live. He was a farmer, stockman and carpenter by trade, also hauled farm machinery, farm produce, hay and followed the wheat harvest for a time.

Fred was the son of Adam Wissinger (1861 PA - 1924 MO) and Emma (Pfifer) Wissinger (1868, KS - 1888), daughter of Henry and Olive (Pickens) Pifer. Emma died 23 days after Fred was born, buried at Big springs, KS.

Fred and his older brother, John Daniel, were reared in the home of their grandparents, John and Margaret (Dickason) Wissinger of Hannibal, MO, until their father married Carrie Willey of Hannibal in 1895.

At age 15, Fred ran away and went west to WY, worked on a ranch seven years; from there he toured the southern states, working at carpentry. About 1928, he moved to Noble, MO and worked on the farm for his uncle Dan Wissinger. While in Ozark County, he met and married Jul 12, 1930 to Lena Smith (b. Nov 25, 1903) daughter of George Franklin and Roenia (Bushong) Smith of Brixey, MO. Fred and Lena were parents of four children:

Ina May (Jun 6, 1931, Ozark County - Nov 19, 1991, Lebanon) married October 1961, Tom Lee Booth, son of Seth and Eulah (Harrison) Booth of Lebanon. They had no children of their own, but reared Toms nephew and niece (twins), Bryan "David" and Jacqueline Fern Booth (Jun 18, 1962). David married Keei Wages; three children: Joe David, patrick Ellis and Gareth Overtyon Booth. Jacqueline married first Gary Wolff, then Greg Broadwater (divorced), no children.

Veta Ireta (Sep. 12, 1933) Ozark County, married March 1976 Chester Burl King, son of Claud and Rissia (Nyberg) King of Laclede County. Chester, minister of the Church, was previously married to Louise (Nichols), who died in 1975. The seven children of Chester and Louise are: 1) Nancy Zigler; 2) JoAnn (Mrs. Joe Norton); 3) Carolyn (Mrs. Jimmie Franklin); 4) David married Lana (Lips); 5) Leland married first Teresa (Brasuell), then Elena (Bernstein); 6) Steven married Teresa (Ervin); 7) Peggy King (Mrs. Gary Dale Weaver).

George Daniel Wissinger (Mar 6, 1936) Ozark County, minister of the Church of Christ, married February 1960 Thelma Lee (Lindsay) daughter of Durward and Grace (Knight) Lindsay of Lebanon; three children: 1) Jeffery Daniel (Jan. 26, 1961) single; 2) Janet Marie (Apr 29, 1968) married James Crouch, three children - Lindsay Morgan, Stuart James and Monica Louice Crouch; 3) Julie Diane (Jan 23, 1969) married Tracy Sephens, one son Bailey Landon Stephens.
