She was born on March 5, 1926, in Raven, Va., the second daughter of Harley and Ellen Breedlove Dye. She attended Pine Creek Elementary and Honaker high schools. She was a member of Dyllis Baptist Church, where she taught Training Union, Vacation Bible School, GA's and Sunbeams for several years during the 1950s and 1960s.
