ANOTHER PIONEER CROSSES DIVIDE
Andrew Montgomery died last Saturday as the result of a fall in which he broke his hip, particulars of which accident were given in last week's Dispatch. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon and was attended by a large number of relatives as well as many friends who have known him for years.
In the passing of Mr. Montgomery another of the sturdy pioneers who opened up the West crosses the Great Divide. He was born in Missouri in 1817 and came to California in 1859. He was actively identified with the early history of the county and was county assessor for two years. There were 11 children, 8 of whom are still living. They are Mrs. Ellen Gibson, Mrs. Frank Burke, Mrs. J. F. Barbee, Mrs. Al Leper, Mrs. D. M. Lynch, James, Alex and Tom Montgomery.

Note: All census records, however, indicate he was born in North Carolina and not Missouri.

Picture: Artie Hester Montgomery Barbee is standing in the left of the photo, her hand on her father Andrew Montgomery. Elizabeth Anderson Montgomery is on her right, standing. James Felix Barbee is sitting on the right side of the photo with Norman Angela Barbee Faught (b.1893) on her father's lap. The three boys, I know James and Artie had two sons, Walter Lydall Barbee (b. 1891) and Richard Montgomery Barbee (b.1903) but the third boy is unknown.
