Rev. Joseph C. Bauschka, Green Bay, formerly of Antigo and Elcho died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Wyndermere Estate in the care of Unity Hospice. He was 79 years old. Born on Feb. 28, 1930, in Antigo, he was the son of the late Josef and Evelyn (Harty) Bauschka.

As a young man he attended St. John Grade School and graduated from Antigo High School with the Class of 1948. He attended St. Norbert College, De Pere, for two years and St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., graduating with a degree in philosophy and theology. He was ordained on June 4, 1955, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay, by the Most Reverend Stanislaus V. Bona, Bishop of Green Bay.

He served as an assistant Pastor at St. Mary Parish, Kaukauna, from June 16, 1955, until Oct 7, 1964, when he was transferred to St John the Evangelist Parish in Green Bay. He was a counselor and instructor at St. Joseph Academy in Green Bay from Sept. 17, 1965, until July 29, 1968, when he became Director of the Diocesan Sodality. On June 14, 1969, he became co-pastor at Nativity Parish, Green Bay serving there until Jan. 31, 1979, when he became co-pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Kimberly. On Jan. 9, 1980, he became the Pastor at Holy Family Parish, Elcho and St. Mary Parish, Pickerel. He attained the status of senior priest in 2000.

As a talented saxophone and clarinet player, he played in his father's band the J.B. Continentals in Antigo and the Packer Lumberjack Band in Green Bay. In later years he enjoyed jamming with his brothers, John and Conrad. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed playing golf, skiing, hiking, tennis and the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Rose Bauschka, Antigo; two brothers, Conrad (Holly) Bauschka, Commerce, Texas; and his twin brother, John (Mary) Bauschka, Pelican Lake and Sarasota, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Martha Catherine Bauschka, Cleveland, Ohio; and six nieces and eight nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, an infant, Michael Bauschka and Capt. Patrick Bauschka, USN.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church Antigo, with The Most Reverend David L. Ricken, Bishop of Green Bay officiating. Burial will take place in spring at Holy Family Parish Cemetery, Elcho. Reception of the body will take place at 9 a.m. on Monday at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo. Visitation will continue until time of the Liturgy. Bradley Funeral Home, Antigo, is assisting with arrangements.
