Capt. McGrorty 97 Years Old
The Kentucky Advocate, published at Danville, Ky contains the following account of the celebration of the 97th birthday of Capt. A. S. McGrorty, a brother of Col. J. P. McGrorty of Deming:
The venerable Capt. A. S. MeGrorty whose 97th milestone on life's Journey was reached today (May 21), is quietly celebrating the same at his home on the corner of East Main Street and McGrorty Avenue -the latter thoroughfare named in his honor, and his friend will be glad to know that he is still in remarkably good health, with few of his facilties impaired.
Capt McGrorty has the record of being in business in Danville longer than any other person, and only a few year ago retired from active business life. He fa the oldest living member of the Blue Lodge of Masons to Kentucky, and the oldest member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Danville or Boyle County.
A native of Ireland, Capt. McGrorty came to this country a mere youth on a mailing veseel, first stopping at Lexington, where he remained only a short time before coming to Danville, where he has made his home ever since. Throughout his long and honorable career as a citizen and business man in this community he has earned and deserved the respect and veneration of everybody who ever had the pleasure of his acquaintance, and his legion of warmly attached friends sincerely hope that he may more round out a century.

Largely Attended. As an evidence of the esteem in which he was held in this community, where he had resided so long, the last tribute of respect was paid Captain A. S. McGrorty yesterday by a large crowd of people, representative of every walk in life, and all the business houses were closed during the hour of the funeral. Both the Masons and the Odd Fellows attended in a body and the former conducted the concluding services at the grave. In this connection it may not be inappropriate to mention the fact that Capt. McGrorty was a member of Central Lodge of Odd Fellows and with that body helped to conduct the services over the remains of Samuel Dismukes, who was the first person buried in what is now known as Bellevue Cemetery, and who died in 1847.
