TRAER - Robert E Karr, 71, of Dysart, formerly of Traer, died Wednesday, June 21, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following a sudden illness.
He was born June 19, 1935, in Dysart, son of Cleone and Thelma Cone Karr. He married Sharon Hansen in Davenport. She died in August 2005.
Mr. Karr received his education at Dysart, then entered the U.S. Navy and served his country during the Korean War. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for more than 33 years and also was a farm hand for Sealock Farms for many years. He and his wife then operated the Karr Family Kitchen in Traer and in later years worked at the Marshalltown Redemption Center.
Survivors include: three sons, Lon (Terrill) of Traer, Rob of Denver, Colo., and Todd (Diane) of Montour; a daughter, Darsi (Tim) Huddleson of Lytton; 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; four brothers, Marvin of Rudd, Roger of Denver, Iowa, Paul of Dysart and Gaylord of Robins; and three sisters, Bernadine Liverman of Newburn, N.C., Phyllis Thoren of Dysart and Beverly Dreessen of Traer.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Duane Bobs.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Traer, with burial in Dysart Cemetery, Dysart. Military rites will be conducted by Traer American Legion. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Overton Funeral Home, Traer.
