Daughter of Lorren and Morgiana {Sawyer} Arnold, India or Indiana married Louis Porter Howe, a prominent Marlborough businessman & politician and son of Simon Herbert and Harriet {Brigham} Howe. They had no children, but enjoyed an active social life in the community. India and her husband traveled abroad often. In middle age, she hosted her Curtis relatives at the Wayside Inn, Sudbury, for many a Thanksgiving gathering. Her sister was Cora Belle {Arnold} Curtis, who was married to Charles Willis Curtis, also a major producer of shoes at his family owned company. India had a fascinating personality and was known for her refined taste. She had a splendid collection of toys in her parlor, to keep young family members occupied. At her Second Empire home with its third floor ballroom, she was a renowned host with husband Louis in their younger years. They were members of the Unitarian Church, the Second Parish of Marlborough.

India, a member of the DAR, was a great-great granddaughter of Lieut. Joseph Arnold (b.1738, d. November 15, 1796) and 3x great-granddaughter of Lieut. Ivory Bigelow (b. 1741, d 1804), both buried at the old Spring Hill Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.
