Survivors include his wife, Marvel M. Bender; daughter, Tamara Walters of Alpine; sons, Wade M. Bender Jr. of Salt Lake City, Gerald A. Bender of Seattle and Ronald W. Bender of Alpine; brothers, Homer Bender of La Mesa and Paul Bender of Pine Valley; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. today, with military honors, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma.
