Lillian's father died in the war, then she lived with their mother and Jane's 2nd husband, Griffith Spencer, the bro of Tenant. Griffith and Jane had one child, Minnie Jane, half sister of Lillian and Herbert. Lillian's bro, Herbert lived with aunt Amanda Martin, Aunt Nettie, he is not found after about 12 years old. Lillian married Charles Stearns on April 4, 1878 in Milan MI. their oldest girl, Maite,seems to have had birth defects. Maite died young, buried in Boon cemetery, near the Hardys. Lillian and the girls lived on the Stearns grandparents' farm, while Charles was gone south for work much of the time. he brought back perfume bottles and silver pins for the girls, an owl for Ethel and a bird for Etta. Etta remembered her gpa shoveling snow out to the barn. Ethel remembered her mother lining all of them up on the bed while she mopped the floor. they walked to school, and Etta went with Ethel, but cried all day to go home. Ethel also remembered her mother screaming from pain in her head as she died. 26 years, 5 months, 22 days. Hair color, the wavy dark auburn hair of the Spencers that never turns white.
