Daughter of Jacob Stark & Nancy Anne Robinson.

Salem Democrat
December 18, 1890
Cynthia Chastain, wife of Barnett Chastain, Sr., died Sunday morning, December 7, 1890. She was born in the neighborhood where they reside, March 19, 1813. She was married to B. Chastain, June 10, 1834, and have lived a happy and enjoyable life. She was the mother of twelve children, nine sons and three daughters, all of whom lived to a mature age, except four, whom she has gone to meet on the other shore. She had been in poor health for a number of years but fell a victim to the grim monster, death, caused by paralysis. She bore her suffering with a Christian hop and faith. All was done that living hearts and willing hands could do to say the cold arms of death, but in vain. The family circle will be broken up and home will never be the same it was while the dear companion and mother was there to make home cheerful and happy. Never until now will they realize the value of a good and kind mother, who was ever willing to do everything in her power for her children’s welfare. Her remains were followed by a number of grief-stricken relatives and friends to their last resting place, where they were interred in the grave yard at Union cemetery, Monday, December 8, 1890. She was a kind, loving wife and mother, a good and obliging neighbor. While we know that she can never return again, we should rejoice in the hope that we can go to her. Good has taken only His own to be with Him at home in heaven. She had been a member of the Regular Baptist church at Union for about 58 years and has ever since lived an exemplary Christian life. Our loss is her gain in heaven.
