DERBY NEWS

Our community was shocked on Friday morning when the news of the death of Mrs. M. F. Stripe was announced as having passed into the great beyond Thursday evening, June 9, at eight o'clock.

Mrs. Stripe had been in failing health with dread disease of the lungs for some time but it was not considered dangerous she having been in Derby on Tuesday previous to her death. While sitting with her family and father, partaking heartily of ice cream, she complained of being faint and asked that a daughter bring some water. She immediately became unconscious and died in a short time.

This bereavement falls heavily on the family. Only those of us who have passed through the same heart rending trial can sympathize to the fullest extent.

Mellie Frances Barnett was born in Lucas county, Iowa, June 8, 1864, and was married to M. F. Stripe February 19, 1885. Five daughters and one son blessed this union, all of which are young and at home.

These, with the husband, father and one sister are left to mourn the loss of her whose kind words of sympathy and encouragement will be missed but will still sound in their ears and linger in their memory until they are permitted to hear that voice and see that face in scenes of glory.

Services were held at the family residence Saturday at 1 p.m., conducted by Rev. J. F. Barron and the remains were laid to rest in the Derby cemetery, followed by a large concourse of friends. The family have the sympathy of the entire community.
