Henry E. Olbon, 83, of Southern Pines, died Friday (June 17, 2005) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Southern Pines with the Rev. David Helms and the Rev. L. Alton Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Olbon was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Hart County, Ga., to the late John Benson Olbon and Mamie A. Jordan Olbon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European theater. He worked at Sun Trust Bank as a loan officer for 34 years and was a member of Mt. Park First Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Ga. He served as a deacon for many years at several different Baptist churches in Georgia. He attended First Baptist Church in Southern Pines.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Teasley Olbon; a son, Philip T. Olbon, and his wife, Sandra, of Southern Pines; a grandson, R. Benson Olbon of Irvine, Calif.; two sisters, Laura Mangum of Decatur, Ga. and Elton Daniels of Augusta, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, 200 East New York Ave., Southern Pines, NC 28387.
