Obituary
Mr. Aaron "Woody" Carson Woodring, 92, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away unexpectedly on May 31, 2022, at the Wellspan York Hospital, York, PA. He was born to the late Charles W. and Alice M. (Keckler) Woodring on September 15, 1929, and was a lifelong resident of Waynesboro. He spent his youth on family farms and attended local schools. He served with the United States Army, 176 artillery, Charlie Company during the Korean War where he received two bronze stars. He and his wife, Regina "Skip" Barkdoll were married on December 22, 1951, in Cavetown, MD., and they celebrated 70 years of love and devotion on that anniversary in 2021. As a young man, Mr. Woodring worked as an auto mechanic and farmer. Later, he worked as a route manager for Potomac Farms Dairy in Hagerstown. MD., as manager of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695 in Waynesboro, and as a machinist at AMP Incorporated, Waynesboro where he retired. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Smithsburg, MD. He was a member of local social and veterans' clubs including the Waynesboro American Legion, Moose Lodge 1191, Owls Club, and VFW Post 695 where he served as a commander. His greatest source of pride was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren with whom his devotion and generosity shined brightest. His dedication to future generations went beyond his own family. In the 1960's, he garnered sponsorship and helped create and coach the Potomac Farms pony league team. During his tenure as the Owls Club treasurer, he initiated the annual higher education scholarship. Mr. Woodring was a sports enthusiast and a steadfast St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Norte Dame football fan. Most of all, he was a Green Bay Packer fanatic making his home into a shrine to the team. Upon his retirement, he organized pilgrimages with his children and grandchildren to Lambeau Field to share his love of "his" team. He enjoyed watching horse racing, playing golf and fishing. The pride of his hunting years was his 12-point trophy buck he harvested as a young man. He taught three generations of children to fish. Mr. Woodring is survived by the love of his life, Regina "Skip" (Barkdoll) Woodring, two sons; Donald A. Woodring, Loganton, PA and fiancé Barbara; Rodney L. Woodring and wife Kimberly, Waynesboro; grandchildren Clinton Woodring, Erin Woodring, Kathryn Woodring, Aaron Carson Woodring II; great grandchildren Sawyer Miller, Finn Wolf, Scout Wolf; and a number of nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings George B. Woodring, Charles W. Woodring, Roy Woodring, Edgar Woodring, R. Henry Woodring, Arthur A. Woodring, Merle Woodring, Rosella (Woodring) Snyder, Elvilda (Woodring) Reed, Caroline (Woodring) Brackett and Sarah Louise (Woodring) Hade. Services will be held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 13025 Greensburg Rd. Smithsburg, MD. Family will receive guests at 10 :00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 9, 2022. Funeral service begins at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Julie Brigham officiating. Burial will follow at Ringgold Cemetery. Arrangements were made by J.L.
