Born in Hamilton County, in the Lamong community, four miles southeast of Sheridan, he was a son of Jonathon and Eva Barker Cox. He was married Mar. 6, 1910 to Lois Jeffries. Following their marriage they ived in the Lamong community.
Rev. Cox was a graduate of Union Bible Seminary in Westfield and of Winona Lake School of Theology.
He had held pastorates at Lamong, Providence, Linn and Reserve, near Russiaville, all in Indiana, in Pilot Grove, Ill., and Marshalltown, Iowa.
He served nine years as Superintendent of the Iowa Yearly Meeting which included Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. he retired from that position four years ago when he moved fom Oskaloosa, Iowa to the Sheridan address, and was minister of the Sheridan Friends Church for the past two and one-half years.
Rev. Cox is survived by his wife; one son, Vernon Cox, R.3 Sheridan; two grandchildren, Stephen and Julia Ann Cox and one sister, Mrs. Than Durham, Kirklin.
