Parastas for John Gawryluk, 84, of Dickinson, formerly of Belfield, will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Belfield, ND with Father Taras Miles celebrating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in rural Belfield. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, ND.
John passed away Monday, September 7, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Care Center in Dickinson.
John Gawryluk was born November 7, 1924 on the family farm in Billings County to Alex and Christina (Steffunik) Gawryluk. He grew up and attended country school. After school he continued to work with his parents for a number of years. He then worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. It was during this time that he married Frances Mokawski at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Belfield. John later began working for Stark County as a truck driver and continued there until his retirement. In the fall of 1999, John and Frances moved to Dickinson and have made their home since.
John loved being outdoors; working in his garden and cutting grass. He was rarely found without his loving wife Frances by his side.
John is survived by his wife Frances and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James and four sisters: Ann Wychenko, Hattie Simnioniw, Mary Edgeman and Olgan Vogele.
