Son of William Lyle & Marie (Rhiner) Griffith.
He graduated from the Walnut, IA. High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines on September 20, 1943 where he achieved the rank of chief baker. He was discharged on December 19, 1945. He was a chef in downtown Omaha and later worked for the Omaha Stockyards Commission House in Omaha, Nebraska from 1947 to 1965. On September 2, 1967, Bud was united in marriage to Edith Mary Vanderlinden in Waverly, Iowa. In 1966, Bud started farming in Iowa raising livestock and crops until his retirement in 1998. He also had a produce and poultry business and ran a freight delivery service to many farms in Iowa, Wisconsin and Arkansas. Bud enjoyed remodeling homes and selling them and he liked to hunt and fish. He was always thinking and not afraid to try anything. He always kept busy. Bud had revisited Australia and always wanted to return. He attended the Presbyterian Church.
Bud is survived by a son, Wayne Griffith of Omaha, Nebraska; daughters, Diane Linhart, Nancy Griffith and Donna Mueller, all of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters, Norma Flowers of Des Moines, Iowa and Dorothy Griffith of Centerville, Virginia; brother, Bill Griffith and wife Opal of Walnut, Iowa; step son, Bob Ruckels and family of Alabama; step daughter, Barb Noble and family of Alabama; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Brian; parents, Lyle and Marie; wife, Mary; sisters, Darlene Olsen, Barb Hinz and Janette Meyers.
