3 June 1957: Rev. Arthur Charles James Sr., 77, a guest at the Methodist Church Home in Cornwall for the past four years, died early Sunday morning at the home following a lengthy illness. Born in Mahanoy City, Pa., he was in the active ministry of the Methodist Church, Philadelphia Conference, for 45 years prior to his retirement in 1952. He served the following pastorates: Laureldale, Ambler, Covenant in Philadelphia, and St. Andrews Church in Philadelphia. He was pastor of the Broad Street Manorial Church, Drexel Hill, for 18 years, during which time a new sanctuary cathedral was built and dedicated. He served as Chaplin of the Stale Senate for several terms and was Chaplin of Radiant Star Lodge No. 606, F. and A. M., of Philadelphia. Rev. James was noted for his World Travelogue, having traveled throughout Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world. He was also recognized as an expert photographer. A graduate of Dickinson College in 1907, he was later granted a doctor of divinity degree by the college. He was also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and took a post-graduate course leading to the Ph. D. degree. He leaves one son, Arthur C. James Jr., Lexington, Pa.; two grandchildren; and his mother, Mrs. Caroline Mackey, 96, who is also a guest at the Methodist Church Home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha (Beckler) James.
