Paul H. Donovan
Age 68, of Hockessin, DE, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2009 of ALS / Lou Gehrig's disease.
Paul was born in Boston, MA, the son of Paul H. Donovan Sr. and Dolores (Murphy) Donovan. Paul is a graduate of Boston College. He received his MA degree in German from the University of Illinois and his PhD in German Literature from Bryn Mawr College. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, and sailing. Paul taught at the University of Delaware. For the past 29 years he taught German and Latin at Sanford School where he was also the Chairman of the Foreign Language Department.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Suzanne Curran and his brother, Thomas Donovan. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Marguerite; his son, Mark Albright and his wife Angelika of Hockessin, DE; his brothers, Robert Donovan and his wife Carol of Stoughton, MA, and Fr. Richard Donovan, O.F.M. of Andover, MA; his sister-in-law, Susan Hand and her husband Charles of Raleigh, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 10 at 10 am, at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington, DE. Burial will be in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, Greenville, DE. Friends may call at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Sanford School, 6900 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707 or to the Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.
