Claytor Samuel Peterson, born October 2, 1918 in Logan, Utah, died December 3, 2009 at The Wentworth at Draper Assisted Living Center in Draper, Utah.

He was the son of Samuel Peterson and Carrie Cronquist. Claytor was raised in Cache Valley - a place that remained dear to him throughout his life.

In 1938, he graduated from Logan High School, where he enjoyed his years as a member of the Grizzly football team. After working in Logan for three years, he was drafted into the United States Army on March 6, 1941.

While home on leave, he married his sweetheart Eulala Poulsen on August 7, 1941 in Preston, Idaho; their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple.

Claytor spent one year in Hawaii for jungle training before being sent to the South Pacific, where he served for three years and fought in several military campaigns including Guadal Canal in the Soloman Islands and Luzon in the Philippines.

One special memory that remained with him over these many years was sharing his food rations with the children of Luzon as US forces liberated the Philippines from Japanese control.

After four years of brave service, he was allowed to return home in July of 1945. He was proud to be a member of the "Greatest Generation". He was one of those World War II Veteran's that helped save the world.

He and his wife settled in the Ogden area, where they raised their four children and enjoyed many wonderful years together. Claytor worked many years as a civilian at Hill Air Force Base. Since his retirement in 1981, he has lived in South Ogden and later moved to Crescent Heights in Sandy, Utah be to near his children.

Claytor is survived by his wife and their four children, Vicki (Norman) Godfrey, DeAnn (Harold) Larsen, Kim (Michelle) Peterson and Cindy (Don) Hooper and his sister Elna King. He was especially grateful for his seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

He was a faithful member of the LDS faith and has demonstrated a great love for the gospel of Jesus Christ. He enjoyed serving as a teacher and working with quorum administration.
