Dr. Conover was an internist and a heart specialist on the staff of Trinity Lutheran Hospital for more than 30 years. A medical laboratory at the hospital, a gift of son-in-law Paul Mellon, was named in his honor. Dr. Conover was born in Peculiar, Missouri and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1896. At the university he established football records as a halfback and one of the finest break-away runners in Missouri football history.

Dr. Joseph E. Welker said of him, "Much is heard these days about psychosomatic medicine - as if it were something new. Dr. Conover has been an expert in it for many years. He sits down with a patient and talks things out. He has never stopped reading medicine, and he is one of the best read men in philosophy and history."

His father, Dr. Richard Ashton Conover, was a civil war surgeon and a pioneer physician in western Missouri.
