JEREMIAH FUNDY JONES: Of this place, died Saturday evening [4-04] of pneumonia after a week's illness. He was born on 2 Sep 1838 in Catskill NY. When a young man he moved to Illinois & later to Wisconsin where in 1864 he enlisted in the Union Army. When the war was over he moved to IA & took up a homestead, the home place that he still owns. From Iowa, he moved to the Black Hills for a time, but soon returned to IA.
Here in 1880 he was united in marriage to Emeline Sherbondy & to them 3 children were born, the 2 living being Clark & Ada of this place. In 1901 the family moved to Cheney where Jones was a member of the Masonic order & of the GAR & is survived, besides the family here, by a younger brother in Grafton ND & a sister in Chicago.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Methodist Church conducted by Rev HC Kohr & Masons attending in a body.

Jeremiah Fundy Jones was a Union Soldier in Company G; Wisconsin Volunteers 46 Regiment Infantry.

The wrong Company of the Army for Jeremiah is listed, he enlisted in Company I, Wisconsin 46th Infantry Regiment on 14 Feb 1865. Mustered out on 27 Sep 1865 at Nashville, TN.
