Robert Ground, an Oregon pioneer of 1853, died at The Dalles Hospital December 28, 1917. Mr. Ground was born in Monmouth, Ill., in 1840 and crossed the plains to Oregon with his parents in 1853. The family settled in Polk County near Monmouth, where Mr. Ground lived most of his life. The funeral services were held in the Christian Church here last Sunday, deceased being a life-long member of this church. Mr. Ground never married and is survived by two brothers, Luther Ground, of Monmouth, and Frank Ground, of Buena Vista.
