Captain Henry Neel served as Ensign, Lieutenant, and Captain in Continental Service. He was at King's Mountain and other battles in the vicinity.
His brother Captain William Neel was killed at King's Mt. and another brother, Lt. Andrew Neel was also in the militia there.
The family are of Scots descent and among the earliest settlers in Mecklenburg County, NC where their old home still stands (1945), and where, in Steele Creek Cemetery, their family monuments bearing Coats of Arms are visited annually by thousands.
