Soren Knudsen was born on October 18, 1847, in Sevel, Ringkøbing, to Knud Pedersen and Mariane Jensdatter. He married Juliane Marie Jensen on December 29, 1874, in Vridsted, Viborg, which neighbors Sevel.

Juliane was born in 1847 in Fly, Vridsted, Viborg to Inger Marie Frederiksdr and Jens Christian Halkjaer. They had 10 children and adopted 1 in 21 years. The first six children were born in Denmark and the last four were born in Minnesota. Adopted son John Carl, their youngest, was born in 1896 and we don’t know his background but one presumes he was born in Minnesota.

In 1880, Soren and Juliane were farmers living in Sevel with five children and Soren’s elderly parents Knud Pedersen and Mariane Jensen. Soren’s family immigrated to Minnesota in 1882. Soren was naturalized in 1898. As far as we know, his parents Knud and Mariane did not not emigrate with them. However, Soren joined his three siblings (Jens, Ane Johanne, Ane Kristine) and many other Danes who had immigrated to Minnesota.

By 1885, Soren and Juliane’s family had settled in Andover Township, Polk, Minnesota (about 15 miles south of Fisher and not to be confused with Andover, Anoka) where they were farmers. Soren was naturalized in 1898 In Polk County. Then, in 1910, at the age of 61, they moved to Minnie, Beltrami County with their two youngest children Alvida and Carl.

Juliane died at the age of 75 in 1923. Soren died of on November 24, 1928 at the age of 81.
