Aubrey was the son of Winfield F. Compton and Margaret M. Tabor. He married Bertha E. Martin and Lola A. Hite.

Obituary from "The Columbus Dispatch," OH, April 26, 2005:

"COMPTON, Aubrey Winfield "A.W." Compton, age 98, died on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Monterey Care Center. Retired from Kroger Co. Preceded in death by his 1st wife Bertha Compton and 2nd wife Lola Compton, sons Robert, Aubrey, Jr., Donald and Richard. Survived by his son, Edward (Georgia) Compton; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; true and trusted friends, Elaine Magary, Marie Quinn; and brother, Richard Cornell. Since returning to Columbus from California, A.W. devoted his life and efforts to helping others less fortunate. He was inducted into the Central Ohio Senior Citizen Hall of Fame in 1999 and nominated for the 'Show You Care' Jefferson Award as a testimony of his generous work. In 1990 he was voted the Senior of the Year. A.W. has been a volunteer in Senior Services for 13 years at Mt. Carmel Hospital where he started after his wife, Lola was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He continued his work as a co-leader of an Alzheimer's Support Group for many years. Member of Chapel of the Jehovah Church and the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. Memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel, 3030 W. Broad St. with Pastor Richard Cornell officiating. His remains will be scattered with his wife, Lola, in the Pacific Ocean. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Ohio Alzheimer's Assoc., 3380 Tremont Rd., Columbus, OH 43221."
