Obituary for Dr. Edgar R. Lemon

LEMON, Dr. Edgar R. - Our husband/ father/grandpa passed on March 30, 2009 at the age of 86. He was born in Buffalo on August 22, 1921. His parents were Dr. A. Bert and Greta Lemon and he had one brother, Jim. His high school class recognized his potential by voting him Most Likely to Succeed. He brightened many a life with the eternal twinkle in his eye. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Cornell University, his PhD at Michigan State U. Dr. E.R. Lemon became a world renowned scientist in the field of Agronomy. His daily profession was as a Cornell research professor. Ed like to introduce himself as an Environmental Physicist. In retirement, he created a Constructed Wetlands experiment in Niagara-on-the- Lake that expanded into raising the environmental consciousness of the community. During WWII, in 1944, Ed married Donna Deline, of Port Colborne, Ont. They went on to have three boys; Wilfred, Bruce and Bob; three grandchildren, Strawberry, Aubrie and Loris. They celebrated their 64th anniversary last July. Dad/Grampa taught us all the Lemon values of integrity, love of the earth and sailing. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Endowment Fund of the Unitarian Congregation of Niagara, 223 Church St., St. Catharines, Ont., CA, L2R 3E8. Ed's Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 6 at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Church in St. Catharines.

ITHACA - Our Beloved husband, father, grandfather, Dr. Ed Lemon, 87, of Niagara On The Lake, Ontario, passed away on March 30, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. A Bert and Greta Lemon and his younger brother, Jim. His high school class recognized his potential by voting him "Most Likely to Succeed." He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Cornell University and his PhD at Michigan State University. Dr. Ed Lemon became a world renowned scientist in the field of Agronomy. He liked to introduce himself as an Environmental Physicist. His daily profession was as a Cornell research professor.
After retiring from Cornell, he created a "Constructed Wetlands" near his home in Niagara On the Lake, that expanded into a usable water filtering system.
During WWII he met and married Donna Deline of Port Colborne, Ontario in 1944. They celebrated their 64th anniversary last July. He is survived by his wife, Donna of Niagara On the Lake, Ontario; his sons, Wilfred/Jake of Emmett, ID, Bruce of Saranac Lake, NY and Bob of Crescent City, FL as well his grandchildren, Strawberry of Ithaca, NY, Aubrie of Montgomery, AL and Loris of Paris, France.
Ed cherished his family and passed on his integrity, humor and his love of the earth, renovating old houses and sailing. We will all miss the eternal twinkle in his eye. Those wishing to remember Ed through a contribution are kindly asked to consider the Endowment Fund of the Unitarian Congregation of Niagara. A celebration of Ed's life will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at 4pm at the Silver Strand Bed and Breakfast in Sheldrake, NY on Cayuga Lake.
