DEER CREEK - Clara N. "Toots" Reeder, age 84, of Route 2, Box 244A, St. Elmo, Ill. the mother of a Deer Creek woman, died Monday, July 3rd, 2006, at Friendship Manor in St. Elmo.
Funeral services will be on Friday, July 7th, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. at the Kessel Funeral Home in St. Elmo. Visitation will be today, July 6th, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo.
Memorials may be made in Clara's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Toots was born on Sept. 7, 1921, in Carter, Ill., the daughter of Scott and Clara May (Sloan) Justice. She married Joe R. Reeder on Feb. 6, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1993.
Years ago, she was the proprietor of a grocery store in Parkland, Okla., for six years. When the family relocated back to St. Elmo, she was the store clerk for Todd Haslett's Tot N Hop for many years until she retired in 1972. During the late 1990s and early 2000s she assisted her daughter Jo Nell with deliveries at the local flower shop.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Jo Nell (husband, Jerry) Hill of St. Elmo and Pam (husband, Phil) Wilfinger of Deer Creek; one son, Gary "Rex" Reeder of St. Elmo; two sisters, Phyllis Albright of St. Elmo and Eileen Ervin of Altamont; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, William; and three sisters, Todd Haslett, Margaret Haslett and Anna Griffin.
