--Calvin was eldest of the 13 children of Thomas Battle and wife Mary "Polly" Baker. The family moved from Warren County to Monroe County in 1821.
--Occupation: Planter.
--He married #1 Sarah Ann Raines on Sept. 18,1834. Sarah & three of their 4 children died of scarlet fever in 1844. Only son William Calvin Battle survived.
--He married #2 Harriet Green Redding on Jan. 24,1845. This marriage produced one daughter, Sarah Ann Battle.
--Member of a Masonic lodge.
--He served in the Georgia State Legislature.
