Jesse Marion Maize, son of Abraham and Elizabeth Maize, was born in Hancock county, Ill., April 25, 1844. He moved with his parents to Missouri when quite young and they settled on a place near Klondike but soon moved to the Kroff farm where he grew to manhood.

He enlisted in Co. B. Second Regiment of General M.S.M. Volunteers on February 14, 1862, and was discharged from service on March 8, 1865. Mr. Maize was then united in marriage to Sara Cobb and to this union was born two children, Nora and Semer. After Mrs. Sara Maize’s death he was again united in marriage to Emily Brown and to this union was also born two children. Mattie Ayer and Mollie Bunnell. On February 20, 1882, he was united in marriage to Susan C. Ryals and to this union was born seven children, Kate Morris, John W. Maize, Edith Rockhold, Ernest Maize, Lillie O’Briant, Walter Maize and David M. Maize.

He departed this life at his farm home north of Lancaster, Mo., on Sunday evening, April 19, 1936, at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 22 days.

Of these children he leaves to mourn his departure, Semer Maize of Denver, Colo., Mattie Ayer and John W. Maize of Lancaster, Mo., Edith Rockhold of Baldwin City, Kans., Lillie O’Briant of Lakenan, Mo., Walter H. Maize of Ontario, Calif., also 35 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. W. J. Andrews of Lancaster, Mo., also a number of nieces and nephews and a lot of friends. He was preceded in death by all three wives and these children: Ernest, David M. Maize and Nora Ray, Mollie Bunnell and Kate Morris.
He was a kind loving father and a friend to all who knew him.

Funeral services were conducted at Liberty church Thursday, April 23rd with the Rev. Frank A. Smith in charge. Burial was in the Liberty cemetery.
