James Lyle, the second son of Aaron Lyle, was born in Smith Township, Washington County, Penna. on April 2, 1785, He was a tall and rather slender man, and was of a quiet and retiring disposition. He had read widely and intelligently, and was a good talker, and very fond of company, although he rarely paid visits to anyone. His friends had to visit him, and when they did do, they received a hearty welcome. When quite young he married Mary Campbell of Hanover Township. She was of a disposition very similar to his own. They lived on a farm in Smith Township near the present town of Atlasburg. Here James died on March 5, 1860 and his wife on December 2, 1867. Their family consisted of four sons and three daughters.
