Mrs. N. C. Bettinger, wife of Jacob C. Bettinger, deparated this life on Tuesday, March 7th, 1882. She was the daughter of John Alley, Esq. Capt. in the Mexican army under Gen. Scott, and was born in San Francois County Missouri, Nov. 9, 1840, and was consequently, 41 years 3 months and 29 days old at the time of her death.

For three years she had been a patient sufferer of consumption and all the skill of physicians could not arrest its progress and Mr. Bettinger removed from their former home in Calistoga, California, to Cheney about a year ago with a hope that a change of climate would be beneficial to her failing health. But disease had gained too strong a hold of her system, and anxious friends and relatives could see that she was rapidly failing. She suffered and died with a Christian fortitude mourned by a fond husband and large family of children and friends.

She was a member of Daughters of Rebecca, and a member of the Presbyterian Church. The funeral was held at the residence on Wednesday attended by a large concourse of people, and the remains taken to Walla Walla for interment. The bereaved husband and family have the sympathy of the entire community in this, their hour of bereavement.
