He is survived by daughter, Valerie Hermes of Garland, step-daughter Janna Parker of Carrollton, and step-son Gary Parker of Georgetown, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and best friend Cecil Brocklehurst of Farmers Branch. John, nicknamed "Sonny" or "Scott" by those who knew him best, was a resident of Farmers Branch, for more than 60 years. John worked for LTV-Vought Corporation for 34 years where he retired at an early age, and spent his retirement years doing what he loved best - working on his classic car and carpentry in his woodshop. Many thanks to the wonderful in-home caregivers who made John's last 11 months on earth that of dignity, comfort and happiness. John has chosen to donate his body to UT Southwestern Medical School in hopes that more can be learned about the devastating disease of Alzheimer's. John will be laid to rest at Hilltop Cemetery in Carrollton.
