Floyd Oakes, 95, of 140 Pacolet Hwy., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Henrietta, N.C., he was the husband of Margaret Rae Parker Oakes and son of the late Stanley Oakes and Altie Pennington Oakes. Mr. Oakes was a selfemployed home builder and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, surviving are three daughters, Brenda Ruppe and husband, Wayne, Parnice Lester and husband, James, and Judith Parker and husband, Ronald, all of Gaffney; 10 grandchildren, Vickie Lynn, Jeremy Rice, Lisa Brumley, Kim Jolly, Debbie Smith, Laura Deaton, Christine Henderson, Brad Oakes, Jeff Oakes and Michelle Smith; and 18 greatgrandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Oakes was preceded in death by a son, Harold Dean Oakes. and first wife Maggie White Oakes
The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 5, from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.
Services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Ham and Dr. Donnie Padgett officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
