Vera M. Mietchen, departed this life to live forever with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Mietchen from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at First Assembly of God, 13th and Mulberry streets, Ottawa. The Rev. Keith Jones will be officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Vera was born June 24, 1919, in Cleveland County, Okla., to Claude E. and Mary B. (Robinson) Guy. Her early childhood years were spent in Claycomo, Mo. The family moved to Ottawa, Kan., in 1931, where she graduated Ottawa High School in 1937.

She married Raymond L. Ames June 12, 1937, at Ottawa, Kan. One son and four daughters were born to them. They later divorced. She married Wilburn Cochran in 1958. He died in 1970. She married Andrew J. Mietchen Sept. 19, 1970. He died July 26, 2003.

She was a faithful member of Ottawa First Assembly of God, teaching an adult Sunday school class for 30 years. She was a kind and loving person, offering a smile, laugh, a quick wit and a helping hand to all who were fortunate enough to become acquainted with her.

She is survived by a brother, Marion Guy, Sand Springs, Okla; five children, Dan Ames, Ottawa, Kan., Vera Corbin, Queen Creek, Ariz., Judi Ames, Oklahoma City, Okla., Susan Duckworth, Leawood, Kan., and Ellen Stadrick, Mt. Aukum, Calif.; four step-children, Gary Mietchen, Baldwin City, Kan., Jim Mietchen, Baldwin City, Kan., Linda Clevenger, Ottawa, Kan., and Connie Mietchen, Corozal, Brazil.

Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, nine nephews and eight nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Mietchen; a sister, Carmen Peffly; and her parents, Claude and Mary Guy.
