Ethel E. Herrington Pitts, better known as Geenaw to all that loved her, died September 22, 2007 at her daughters home. She passed peacefully with her family around her. Born October 14, 1914 to Naomi and James F. Herrington. She was a native of Bastrop, Louisana, and a resident of Mobile, Alabama since 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents and five older brothers. She was also preceded in death by her son Clifford R. Pitts, granddaughter Deborah G. Akridge, and great granddaughter Aimee L. Butts. Her surviving family are her daughter Carolyn P. (Harold) Dillon, granddaughters Denise G. (Joel) Butts, Deidre P. (Kenny) Gilbert, grandsons Douglas E. (Pam) Gregg, Jason R. (Marisa) Pitts, great granddaughters Sara and Melanie Gregg, Caitlin, Elizabeth and Emily Gilbert, great grandsons Braxton Akridge, Brian P. Butts, and great great grandson Josua Gavin Butts. Geenaw was a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church and worked for the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for 40 years. Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home on Thursday September 27, 2007 at 12 Noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 until 12 Noon. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
